AdU DCOMM holds this year's media summit

Howie Severino shares his wisdom at the Media Summit 2022

The Department of Communication of Adamson University conducted this year’s Media Summit with the topic “COMMprehend: Understanding media’s role in building national consciousness through public discourse” held via Zoom on May 7.

Beverly Pedregosa, the vice president of internal affairs of the Creative Communicators Society of Adamson University (CREACOMMS) and the event head, said that the main objective of Media Summit is for students to build national consciousness through Media Literacy.

Howie Severino, one of the main speakers, emphasized on the historical backdrop of disinformation and how strong it has become since then, reminding everyone that people must be responsible media consumers.

He also recalls some of the virtues taught by Dr. Jose Rizal and how Filipinos use those values today.

“We still have many of these values; many of them have been compromised, many of them are being attacked,” he said.

For Jordan Amor of AMC 201, the webinar is a great help to realize that they are communication majors.

“The speakers were unexpected because of Howie Severino. His topic was unexpected because he went deeper to inform us about the media,” he said.

As for Emille Caigas AMC 102, she learned about the parts of the media and how it works.

“What I realized well [during] listening to the session of Mr. Howie is that media can be helpful in many situations as long [as] we put it on the right side of our lives,” she said.

Moreover, Richelle Magsakay of AMC 101, shared that she enjoyed the webinar and was captivated by the lessons learned.

“Be like Rizal, be enlightened. Be decent and respectful, even when others are not,” she said.

“Every word of the speakers gives me additional knowledge that I can always use in my life,” Magsakay added.

The event was exclusive to Adamson University communications students; some of the attendees shared their experiences with the webinar.
