Often left unseen, but the fruits of their labor are much more than what it seems. Invisible to the cameras, now, it is their turn to be the main character of the story.

Last January, The Jessica Soho Presidential Interviews became the talk of the town, playing a huge role in the national elections. But behind its success are the great contributions of its hard-working researchers, who made the event possible.

Being the head researcher of the program, Angelie Rose dela Rosa and the entire team brought the game to a whole new level. Aside from the significant role she recently played, she is also a segment producer and a program researcher for other GMA News and Public Affairs shows like the Reporter’s Notebook, Imbestigador, and The Atom Araullo’s Special.

In spite of her dedication to fulfilling three different responsibilities in the GMA network, there was an untold dream she gave up pursuing.

A graduate of Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Adamson University, this wasn’t her first choice. Angelie was a chemical engineering student at the University of Santo Tomas for two years, but sadly, she was debarred from the program.

“Motivation ko kasi talaga noon ay makagraduate. As in, umabot ako sa punto na gusto ko na lang grumaduate. (My motivation before was to graduate. It really came to the point that I just wanted to graduate),” mentioning the time she had to abandon her original goal.

Nonetheless, this unfortunate happening led to finding her new path when she took the risk of exploring her other options.

“Na-in-love ako doon sa fact na gusto ko pala magwork behind the camera. (I was in love with the fact that I liked working behind the camera),” said Angelie on the first time she took an interest in the production during her third year as a Communication student.

Her struggles did not end right after she graduated. It took her a year of rejections while on the verge of losing hope when suddenly an opportunity in GMA-7 came her way.

What most people didn’t witness was her rough journey where she had to start from the bottom to climb her way up in the industry.

For Angelie, The Jessica Soho Presidential Interviews has been the pinnacle of her career. As someone who is often overlooked in their field, she used to describe herself as an ordinary researcher just like anyone else—not until she played a significant role in this massive event.

“Madalas, hindi nila inintindi kung sino ‘yung mga researchers, producers, kasi ang mahalaga umere ‘yung storya. (Most of the time, people are not understanding who are the researchers, producers because what’s important is that the story gets to air),” she said despite the commendation from the public.

Being regarded as the resibo team by the netizens, one of her fears was for her personal life to be dug the same way she brought up the past issues of the aspirants.

For a person who puts a lot of effort in making her shows successful, Angelie used to be thirsty for awards and acknowledgment by the time she was not receiving any.

“May part sa sarili ko na (There was a part of me that) I want one [recognition],” she admitted, but with her recent achievement, it was her turning point when she realized that she’s not used to the spotlight.

Despite the flattering attention she has been getting, Angelie always makes sure it doesn’t make her lose sight of her purpose.

“Hindi pwede ‘yung lumipad ka at mawala ‘yung tapak mo sa paa mo. (It’s not when you fly, you would also lose your feet on the ground),” she said.

Uncaptured on the scenes, it doesn’t make them out of the picture. Just as how she liked working behind the camera, for Angelie, the recognition is just a bonus. After all, it’s all about who you made an impact on as a researcher.
