Nowadays, pranking on April Fools’ Day becomes the annual talk of the town within the last week of March and upon entering the first few weeks of spring.

Although there is no clarity on when and how it started, it still gradually comes as a much-awaited 24-hour celebration every year on April 1.

It is typically an enthusiastic day full of fools and tricks, where excitement and anxiety-filled emotions can be evident too. Here are some iconic gags in today’s time to look back.

  • Sneak peek gone wrong

Remember when Dispatch—an online media outlet known for revealing many dating rumors of Korean celebrities and idols—got clowned by Solar of girl group Mamamoo. They caught her walking and kissing a man last 2020, but it was her co-member Moonbyul who disguised as one.

  • Celebrity bluff

Following her Mang Tomas meme in Siargao, a pregnancy rumor about Nadine Lustre surfaced again on the internet. This online buzz caused some of her fans a mini heart attack and other netizens an all-day ruckus.

However, she isn’t called “President Nadine'' for nothing as she abruptly denied her bashers’ speculations and had the best reaction as always. The actress replied, "How TH (the hell) am I pregnant every year" via Twitter.

  • Hello Bro

On the same day, a groom from General Santos City got pranked by his groomsmen in his supposedly pre-wedding shoot video, which garnered four million views on Facebook.

It was meant to be an emotional first glance with his fiancée, but he shortly held back his tears when he discovered that the one wearing the wedding dress was his musculine-looking buddy.

  • Modern-day Good Samaritan

Meanwhile, a man from Caloocan City decided to pull off an unusual yet heartwarming prank by ordering meals from various restaurants. Later on, he informed the food delivery riders that those were for them to carry home.

Uploader Vberni Regalado said he had seen reminders on social media not to play pranks on delivery riders during April Fools’ Day, which became his inspiration because riders are the ones who bear the burden of customer scammed orders.

Hoaxes can still grow beyond a year-round internet craze brought by the abrupt shifting of active engagement in cyberspace.

Pushing prank boundaries sometimes extends into dangerous situations. Thus, there is a need for a critical consciousness to subdue upon keeping this occasion aligned to its aim: to be entertaining while managing a pleasant environment where one can see playful tricks, hear witty jokes, and experience pranks safely.

Furthermore, one should also still maintain open-mindedness and sensitivity, whether fooling virtually or not, as instances like these are inherently prone to deception.
