Pole vaulter Ernest John (EJ) Obiena and The Philippine Athletics and Track and Field Association (PATAFA) finally reached a settlement during their fifth session, according to Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), on Wednesday, March 30.
The PSC Mediation team announced in their statement via Twitter that both parties assisted successfully. They agreed to put their conflict behind them and arrive at a settlement held in a virtual setup.
"The Philippine Sports Commission-led mediation proceedings on the athletics row reached its fifth session today. It is with much joy that we announce that both parties have agreed to a settlement and the proceedings ended successfully," PSC said.
PATAFA will now endorse Obiena in this year's 31st Southeast Asian Games and the 2022 World Outdoor Athletics.

"The Philippine Athletics and Track and Field Association (PATAFA), the sole governing body of Athletics as recognized by the World Athletics, has agreed to endorse Mr. EJ Obiena to the 2022 Southeast Asian Games and the 2022 World Outdoor Athletics." the statement added.
After the fifth session, the PSC said Obiena apologized to Juico and his teammates.
"Mr. Obiena expressed his apologies to PATAFA, its board members, Mr. Juico, and his teammates, and both have assured each other of forgiveness, to start anew and move on," PSC wrote.
"Chairman Ramirez declared that humility really played a big part in this process. He said that their decision to enter into this process was their first step towards a successful resolution." statement read.
Student-athlete Obiena made Philippine pole vault history by being the first Filipino athlete to qualify for Tokyo Olympics 2020 and jumped to the third rank among the world's top pole vaulters after his groundbreaking achievement in the 2021 season.
