Leading vice presidential candidate Sara Duterte was appointed and accepted the position offered by presidential frontrunner Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as Department of Education (DepEd) secretary on May 11.

Bongbong Marcos Jr. asked Sara Duterte if she wanted to be the Deped Secretary because the job is difficult, and he later stated that she did agree.

“So si Inday Sara, tinanong ko sa kanya kung kaya niya yung trabaho dahil mahirap ang trabaho ng Secretary of Education. Pero nag-agree naman siya,” Marcos Jr. stated during his address to the nation.

(Inday Sara, I asked her if she could do the job because the job of the Secretary of Education is complicated. But she agreed,)

Sara Duterte-Carpio said in her town this Friday that she was glad that the Bongbong Marcos entrusted her to the position.

“We were actually both excited because educating our young people is very important for the progress and development of our nation,” she said.

Duterte expressed concern that the DepEd will conduct "Historical Revision," Sara Duterte responded, "I don't know where those fears come from.”

Despite the criticism, Education Secretary Leonor Briones expressed enthusiasm looking forward to working with Sara Duterte.

“We are confident that DepEd will be in able hands and anticipate a continuity,’’ Briones said in a statement released.

Moreover, Sara Duterte addressed people's concerns about her upcoming proposal for mandatory Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) implementation.

“Hindi po ROTC lang, Dapat po, pagtungtong mo ng when you turn 18 years old, you’ll be given a subsidy, you’ll be asked to serve our country, doon sa AFP,” she said.

(It is not just ROTC, you should, when you turn 18 years old, you will be given a subsidy, you will be asked to serve our country, there in the AFP,)
