Citizens from Shanghai, China, experienced mental instability due to the strict lockdown implemented after the state-run Global Times reported authorities had detected the Omicron variant of the Covid-19 virus.

Following the zero-Covid policy against Omicron, citizens are insistently pleading to tone down the restrictions due to lack of access to food and medical supplies.

The Chinese government stands firm in its decision; while focusing on the Covid-19 outbreak, citizens of the city admit that their mental health plummeted due to the limited access outside their homes.

As individuals who live alone and are clinically diagnosed with depression are getting worse, the government announced that they aim to lift the strict lockdown starting June 1.

The Omicron variant of the Covid-19 virus had caused a widespread outbreak to the people in Shanghai, resulting in putting the entire City into strict lockdown on February 28.
