LIGHTLESS WINDOW: A Discourse of Pink Insults and Red Lies

The National election had occurred. And yet, people's intense debates, conversations, and disagreements about their preferred Presidential candidates are far from over.

It is just right that we use our voices to convey our opinions on this matter. After all, we live in a democratic country wherein we are free to express ourselves. However, self-righteousness and being in denial can convert a supposedly friendly exchange of ideas and positions into a demeaning debate.

As I continue browsing through my social media accounts, I constantly witness people making derogatory remarks about the other's candidate to the extent of humiliating and judging one another.

Supporters of Vice President Leni Robredo, also Known as "kakampinks," would always base their arguments on facts. These individuals would constantly post links and articles detailing VP Leni's accomplishments and Bongbong Marcos' convictions.

On the other hand, disinformation is common among BBM supporters, especially among the elderly. They are the people that readily accept whatever they see on the internet, regardless of the source. Thus, they perceive facts as mere documents trying to bring BBM down whenever presented with facts.

To spite the kakampinks, BBM supporters would always respond with words like "Leni Lutang", "Leni Lugaw", "Pinklawans", and so on.

Not only that, but they would also say things based on hearsay and false information about VP Leni's ties to the Liberal Party, the New People's Army, and other groups.

As I observe these people's debates, I can easily identify where both parties made faults.

Nonetheless, as a former kakampink, I can't deny that some of us, though not all, were really arrogant and self-righteous.

We finally had our chance to have such a promising and competent leader. A leader that this nation deserves. But sadly, instead of encouraging others who were still undecided and had a different bet, they became enraged because of how condescending kakampinks approached and educated them.

Unfortunately, I believe it is one factor among others why VP Leni lost. Because instead of promoting “Angat Buhay Lahat”, some people chose to say “Bobo ka kung, di ka kay Leni.”
