LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS: Why are people so scared of having women as leaders?

Updated: May 24, 2022

Who said a woman can only do household chores? Who said a woman can not carry out a heavy load of work like a man?

Tons of women proved them wrong, one of them is Vice President Leni Robredo who is also a presidential candidate for the 2022 elections.

Robredo (2022), [A] True leadership is stepping up and showing up... even if it means standing in heels for 3 hours.

However, a lot of people misunderstood that certain action and thought that it is unprofessional for a leader to remove her heels in a formal event. Some people think that she is doing those things for them to sympathize with her.

As a woman, I personally think that wearing heels for three hours is a torture, even wearing them for minutes will surely make you shout for pain.

Another reason she tweeted that was because of her closest rival, former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and his absence in a debate after he declined the invitation.

“Ito yung pagkakataon ng taong bayan para suriin yung aming (This is a chance for the public to examine our) demeanor, makita yung aming (see our) character, pwedeng matanong kami tungkol sa aming (we can be questioned regarding our) track record,” she said.

Humankind will throw useless words without a doubt to the people who proved themselves that they can. It shows that they are scared to have a leader based on their gender.

The question is, why? Because their personal choice of presidential candidate can’t do it. They are threatened by the achievements of Vice President Robredo.

As we celebrate International Women’s Month every March, a great deal of women supported not only the candidacy of Vice President Robredo, but all women out there by saying their tagline, “Babae ka, hindi babae lang.”
